My son was diagnosed with cortical visual impairment (CVI) as a newborn in 2011. CVI is the leading cause of visual impairment in children in the US, but most people haven’t heard of it. My work is to learn as much as possible about CVI. Currently I am working to complete a vision studies program at University of Massachusetts Boston, the only vision program in the country with a dedicated, required course on cortical/cerebral visual impairment.
The Start Seeing CVI t-shirt was created in response to the lack of knowledge about CVI in my son’s preschool years.
Start Seeing CVI and its Facebook page were created in response to the overwhelming need for advocacy and awareness of CVI.
