My son was diagnosed with cortical visual impairment (CVI) as a newborn in 2011. CVI is the most common visual impairment in children in the US, but most people haven’t heard of it. My work is to learn as much as possible about CVI.
At the end of 2020 in the year of the COVID-19 pandemic, I earned my M.Ed in vision studies at University of Massachusetts Boston, the only vision program in the US with a dedicated, required course on cortical/cerebral visual impairment. In addition I am completing at the first of its kind CVI Certification, also at UMB.
The Start Seeing CVI t-shirt was created in response to the lack of knowledge and understanding about CVI in my son’s early school years.
Start Seeing CVI and its Facebook page were created in response to the overwhelming need for advocacy and awareness of CVI.
